Next-Gen Console Race Begins

November 8th, 2006

Well boys and girls, this is it. PS3 and Wii release in the middle of the month and the Next-Gen gaming system Race will begin; although several people (myself included) do not consider the Wii to be Next-Gen, but hey...it's Nintendo's Next-Gen.

I've already picked up an Xbox 360. I had to get it after I saw my co-worker's and watched, repeat, Watched a playable demo for Lost Planet and I had to get one. That was about four-five months ago. So far I've been satisfied and lucky enough not to have any problems with it (and I haven't heard of any friends' 360s having issues either). As soon as Gears of War comes out tomorrow (I have reservation :p) I'm sure I'll be happy I bought it. So one marked off the list, two to go, and I've got my sights on the Wii.

I think the Wii will be a fun, perhaps even an interesting console to own. I mean come on, who hasn't played at least one gamecube game they haven't liked? The Wii plays Gamecube games. And how about N64 and Nintendo games? You can play them on the Wii via Download (and purchase...grrr), and the remote is pretty frickin cool. From what I understand, the controllers actually cost more to produce than the consoles themselves. That may seem like it's not saying much for the Wii, but the Wii isn't really competing against Microsoft and Sony this time around. They're trying to get everyone involved, hence the title (Wii). Even Microsoft tried tapping into that marketing concept ("Jump In"). One final word about the Wii....Zelda!

Ok, now Sony isn't impressing me at all right now. I mean I've been hearing a lot of negative things about the console, and what the hell happened to Killzone? Ah Hem? And boy is it gonna be a pain to get one. You thought Xbox 360s went for an obseen fortune on Ebay...you ain't seen nothing. Wish I had a pre-order. :p I still have faith in Sony, and I hope they produce something good. I will fork out $600 for the PS3 when they release a Final Fantasy VII remake, or 2008 rolls around....which ever comes sooner.

----Bottom Line----

  • 360: Good buy and there's at least 1 game that you'll enjoy.

  • Wii: Get one, tell your friends to get one. have fun!

  • PS3: Wait till next year and until they get the kinks out.

2.71 Custom Firmware SE-B Released!

October 26th, 2006

PSP Users Alert! This is truly an accomplishment for PSP Hackers alike. Sony designed the Playstation Portable to been firmware upgradble for the purpose of including additional features and security fixes. These security holes are exploited to run homebrew software and pirated copies of PSP software titles. I don't think they had this in mind. :p

Ocean Fishing

October 20th, 2006

So yeah, I went out Ocean fishing for the first time in ten years about a month ago. We went out of Port San Luis in Avila Beach. I had such a blast that I had to sqeeze in another trip before the end of the season (Oct. 31st).

Thanks Patriot Fishing. This is my trophy from this past Monday (10-16-06).

P.S. I'm going again this up coming Monday! :) One last trip for the season.

Update: 10-23-06

Well I didn't do as well today, but I managed to pick up a nice pole and reel to call my own and I brought in my first lingcod today (too small though). Now I can go anytime I get the itch...providing it's in season. :) Oh, well. Next season, it's on!
